I arrived early yesterday morning in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I heard from different clubs to play. After some research at the reception of the hotel, I decided to go for a poker tournament tonight. I motivated a few colleagues to join me.
After the regulatory caipirinha, we arrive at H2 Poker club around 20:30 for the start of the tournament scheduled to 21h. The welcome was warm as usual in Brazil. We were led into a room where we can enjoy a buffetteche offered players! Coca Lightche, Chriptche and other non alcoholic beverages accompany meat and fejoada. Too cool, these brasileiros! Well, they are so nice, everything is a little to cool the land of Chico, and the tournament is finally starting to 10:15 p.m.! It’s Brasil is tropical … ..
This is a rebuy tournament at 100R ($ 50US), with an add-on at the end of the period. The structure is relatively slow. 30 poker players are present and only the top 5 are paid.
I attack hard, as my first hand was KK against JJ! Both players follow me directly and I spend $ 3000 to $ 8000. A few hands later, QQ propels me a little more to the top! And then there is the desert of cards! I take a bad shot against a player who touches his straight on the flop. I lose almost half my stack. I decided early in the tournament I do not rebuy and take only the add-on. So I’ll have to take until the end of the first hour! Some level players amass more than average chips in Assen on bad bad-beat-beat to others less fortunate!
From my side, waiting, waiting and waiting again.
The break comes, I $ 6,000 (or 2 times the starting stack). The add-on of $ 6,000 allows me to double my stack! I hope to start playing a few rounds, but waiting, waiting and waiting again! Mind you, that my decisions were fairly easy to make! Of course I saw 72o regularly, but JT, which was tempting but my place at the beginning of my speech and low carpet does not allow me fancy at the time! Apart from that, these are games like K4, J2 or Q4 which accompanied me for a few hours!
It has been almost three hours that I play, and I’m entered in only 4 shots! Blinds increase and it is difficult to attack without both players follow with marginal hands. It is 19 players and I will soon fall into the area 10BB! Fortunately, AQs allows me to double my stack and here I go again …. Which lasted over an hour! I wait again and again … ..
I double my stack yet, but the blinds are so expensive that I have more than 12BB. I can link a few flights of blinds and returns to 20BB.
We are still 14 players. I would love to make the final table. I wait and I wait … ..
Stolen armored flight blinds, I climbed to my surprise at the final table. I take this opportunity to adjust my ambitions and aim for a spot paid … The 5th you say? Well no, the 6 th. Here’s my plan!
When 6 players will still be in play, I would suggest a deal.
I won a few corner-flips, and here I am among the last 6 poker players …. And I have the 6th mat. I suggested that the first 5 players give some of their gains in the 6th, allowing the bubble to burst before it even have had time to inflate! Finally, the first 2 will each give $ 100R and 3 rd $ 50R, which I secured $ 250R gain.
A few shots later, a player participated in rugs and the two players follow. The first check on the flop and the next sends his stack. They then began a discussion on the appropriateness of all-in at the time of the game! Indeed, being in the money, it is more correct checker to the end to face the only 2 games all-in player to increase the chances of it out and win a place. Unfortunately, this player does not know some tricks of the game, the winning hand is lying and who made our Mariol carpet does not affect its color! The player doubles his belt, and I jumped a few moves later. I will close the 6th instead of 5th! Obrigado Senhor! In short, that’s poker!
I cash my $ 250R, fortune! and returned to the hotel with the last group still standing at 3am! It helped me be patient and make reasonable decisions. Again thank you, Heloise for your company and your encouragement, it was cool!
I spent a very pleasant evening, patience has paid off! I played less than 10 hands in everything! I should remember.
